Do I need a manager, agent, publicist, or otherwise pushy person promoting me to succeed?
2009-02-06
No.  There may be some point in your rise to stardom where you can't manage all of your own contacts and events, but that is far from the beginning.
Contacts are key.  Managing your contacts is even more important.  Your 'big break' will come from .... you don't know where!! That is, if it comes, don't sue me if you never end up crying and swatting paparazzi with your purse.  The point is, you never know who's uncle's girlfriend has what connections, so it's important to know and mainain good relations with everyone you meet.

Being your own publicist will be very important in the beginning.  Promoting yourself in a confident, positive manner and relating with others in a confident, respectful way will force them to take you seriously.

This especially applies in booking your own gigs.
