For music lovers, attending a music festival is the most exciting thing, short of a private audience with their favorite musician. With a bit of market research, you can give that feeling to the people attending your music festival (which reflects very well on your festival!).
Market research for a music festival can be very simple if you have the correct tools.
Music festival market research essential questions:
1. Who is searching for what you have? Determine the demographic of your music festival
2. Where are those people spending their time? Research where to market your music festival
3. What bands/musicians appeal to your demographic? Find bands by genre and preview their music
Today we will focus on part 1, market research to determine the demographic of your music festival.
1. Who is searching for what you have?
Determine the demographic of your music festival
There are many tools that can show you demographic information for a specific genre. If you are doing market research for a music festival that will feature country music, you will need to know who is searching for terms related to country music.
First, go to Google. Google Insights will show you what people are searching for at Google, including a graph of interest in that phrase over the last four years.
Second, use a demographics tool like the one here from MSN Adcenter. My favorite tool for this (from technobloggie) has been offline for the last few days, so here is the second choice.
Third there is a search funnel tool that shows what people were searching for before and after they search for your chosen search term.
